Finn Wittrock spoke about his role as Guy Gardner in a canceled DC Comics project. Despite the previous regime’s plans for multiple Green Lantern incarnations, Wittrock had prepared for the role by reading numerous Green Lantern comics. He gained an appreciation for the character and its mythos. While his time as Guy Gardner never materialized, the experience provided him valuable insights into the challenges and rewards of portraying such a beloved character.
“My 20 Green Lantern comics sparked an interest in my five-year-old son. While initially explaining them as project research, I gained a comprehensive education on the character. This ignited a passion within me. Despite the disappointment of not landing the Green Lantern role, it provided valuable preparation. I’m hopeful that a suitable comic book role awaits me, equipping me to navigate that world effectively.”
Our interviewer inquired about the iconic bowl cut required for the role. Wittrock expressed his willingness to embrace the hairstyle, stating, “I understood the significance of the red hair and bowl cut. So, mentally, I was preparing for it. Physically, I wanted to wait until the last possible moment. Yes, I was preparing for that eventuality.”
Who Is Playing Guy Gardner Now?
Nathan Fillion will portray Guy Gardner in James Gunn’s DC Universe, hinting at a cameo in next year’s “Superman.” Speaking to Collider, Fillion expressed enthusiasm for exploring Gardner’s flaws and beloved qualities.
“People inevitably have flaws, quirks, and vulnerabilities,” Fillion remarked. “These imperfections make characters relatable because we all experience and observe them in ourselves and others. Guy Gardner, a flawed and carefree individual, represents a prime opportunity for me to explore these qualities. Playing flawed characters grants actors great freedom, and for someone who enjoys portraying such individuals, Guy Gardner is a treasure trove of imperfections.”
