Ryan Gosling’s Beavis and Butt-Head sketch on Saturday Night Live became an instant hit with fans. The sketch, which featured Gosling and SNL cast member Mikey Day as audience members in a serious forum on artificial intelligence, drew comparisons to the iconic animated characters created by Mike Judge.
Despite airing weeks ago, the sketch continues to generate buzz. Gosling and Day even reprised their roles recently to promote Gosling’s movie The Fall Guy, showcasing the enduring popularity of the Beavis and Butt-Head impersonations.
Gosling stars in “The Fall Guy” with Emily Blunt, and the David Leitch film is hitting theaters this weekend. On the red carpet at the film’s premiere Tuesday night, Gosling and Day appeared dressed as Beavis and Butt-Head, interrupting one of Blunt’s interviews. A video of the exchange is available below.

The iconic “Beavis and Butt-Head” sketch was lauded as a standout in the recent “Saturday Night Live” season. Its enduring popularity suggests that there may be more collaborations featuring the beloved duo in the future.
Beavis and Butt-Head SNL Sketch Was Years in the Making
Despite Gosling and Day’s chemistry in the “Beavis and Butt-Head” sketch, the idea had been explored unsuccessfully at SNL in recent years. Heidi Gardner, an SNL regular, shared insights into these failed attempts in an interview with Vulture.
“We had a sketch that we’d been showing at table reads for around five years. I was initially involved as an audience member, but I don’t recall the other castings. It never progressed to a dress rehearsal.”
“Occasionally, due to timing or stage, a sketch may be cut on a Friday night instead of Saturday. This occurred previously with a sketch that Mikey Day and Streeter Seidell repeatedly proposed, expressing their desire to execute it before leaving the show. They envisioned it as their ‘white whale,’ a project they were determined to complete. Considering Ryan’s penchant for playful and fun concepts, they likely assumed he would be receptive to their idea.”
