Eight years have elapsed since Rick Grimes’ (Andrew Lincoln) sacrifice separated him from Michonne (Danai Gurira) in Season 9 of “The Walking Dead.” Despite blowing up a bridge to safeguard his loved ones from walkers, Rick survived and was rescued by a CRM helicopter. The series then advanced six years into the future, showcasing an older Judith Grimes (Cailey Fleming) and her younger brother, RJ (Antony Azor), Michonne and Rick’s son.
After departing the main series in 2018 and 2020, respectively, Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira will reprise their roles as Rick and Michonne in the new six-episode spinoff, “The Ones Who Live.” The event series premieres on AMC on February 25.

The Bridge

19 months after their victory over the Saviors, Rick and Michonne pursued Carl’s vision for a better world, forging unity among Alexandria, the Hilltop, the Kingdom, Oceanside, and Sanctuary. Rick oversaw bridge construction to connect the communities, while Michonne established a charter.
Despite a massive walker herd threatening civilization, Rick initially refused to sacrifice the bridge. However, he ultimately sacrificed himself by leading the walkers to the bridge and blowing it up to protect his family and friends.
Appearing to die in the explosion, Rick was found alive by Jadis/Anne, who contacted a CRM helicopter. The helicopter airlifted an injured Rick to an unknown location.

The Body

Eight months after Rick’s disappearance, Daryl and a pregnant Michonne searched the woods for his body. Despite Daryl’s determination to find him, their efforts only yielded Rick’s Colt Python, covered in mud. “Not gonna stop looking,” Daryl declared, determined to continue his search indefinitely.

The Baby

Six years after the bridge, a time skip introduces Michonne and Rick’s son, Rick “RJ” Grimes Jr. (Conceived in the season 9 episode “Warning Signs”).
The Bag

Years after escaping the Civic Republic of Philadelphia, Rick Grimes had limited possessions: a kill stick, canned food bearing the CRM’s symbol, a journal, his cowboy boots, and a phone adorned with Japanese characters and etchings of Michonne and Judith. He attempted to flee on a boat marked with “672” before being apprehended by a CRM helicopter.
The Boat

After six years since the bridge, Michonne undertook a mission to a naval base on Bloodsworth Island, Maryland. Virgil (Kevin Carroll) claimed to have knowledge of weapons and munitions that could aid the survivors in their battle against the Whisperers. However, upon arriving, Michonne discovered boat 672, which Virgil explained had washed up during a severe storm.
Michonne discovered Rick’s boots, the phone, and a logbook detailing the boat’s voyage from Tampa Bay, Florida, through Hopewell, Virginia, before reaching Bridgers Shipyard in New Jersey.
The Brave Man

Michonne (code name “Daito”) contacted Judith (code name “Shoto”) and RJ (code name “Little Brave Man”) via walkie-talkie. She informed them that she had discovered “the Brave Man’s” (Rick’s) belongings. Judith responded, “If you believe he’s alive, you must locate him.” Michonne expressed a desire to return home to Alexandria, but Judith urged her to find Rick and bring him back. “What if he needs you more? He may be attempting to return home as well, but with no assistance?”
Michonne agreed to search and travel north to New Jersey, promising to maintain walkie-talkie contact with Judith for as long as possible. Judith instructed her mother, “Go get him.”
The Belongings

Michonne was spotted with Rick’s bag in the coda of the series finale, which capped a years-long separation. Their paths will soon cross again in the spin-off series, “The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live.”
