The Civic Republic Military’s code of “security and secrecy above all” guides Warrant Officer Jadis Stokes’ actions on “The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live.” In Sunday’s episode, “Bye,” Stokes reunites Rick Grimes with his wife Michonne, who has been undercover for the CRM as “Dana Bethune.” This secret is kept between the former foes turned allies, but their true relationship remains uncertain for the time being.

In Episode 3, airing on March 10 on AMC and AMC+, Rick and Michonne disguise themselves as strangers to survive under the CRM’s watchful gaze. In a tense scene, Jadis threatens to kill everyone Rick cares for at Alexandria if he attempts to escape with Michonne.

“In the event of my untimely demise, I’ve left a file among my belongings that contains crucial information about you and your loved ones. Upon receiving this file, the CRM Reclamation team would likely move swiftly to eliminate everyone you care about within hours,” Jadis cautions. “Your departure with the knowledge of that City and its power is unacceptable.”

“If Michonne doesn’t belong here,” Jadis states, “she shouldn’t have come. It was her choice. So, Rick, what is yours? Will you assure me you won’t attempt escape?”

If Rick intends to flee with Michonne, Jadis warns, “Everyone you left behind will perish.”

“My priority is security and secrecy. I won’t risk everything I’ve built for myself,” Jadis insists, referring to her earlier action of helicoptering Rick away eight years prior. “I won’t give them time to locate you – and they will – because it would jeopardize me.”

When Rick suggests a deal to keep their encounter secret, Jadis rejects it firmly: “I’m a believer, Rick.”

After crossing over to “The Walking Dead: World Beyond,” Jadis has rediscovered her purpose and community. McIntosh describes her as a driven, passionate leader who manipulates the world to her advantage. Despite her calculating nature, McIntosh emphasizes that Jadis retains a mischievous and playful side. She remains motivated by her desire to restore the world’s former potential.

McIntosh described Officer Stokes — a surname she took from her former boyfriend, Father Gabriel Stokes (Seth Gilliam) — as an amalgamation of Jadis, leader of the junkyard Scavengers, and Anne, the artist who assimilated into Alexandria during season 9 of The Walking Dead.

Anne’s experiences in Alexandria have shaped her connections and outlook. She values authenticity and has shed the desire to conform.
