A new ape ascends to power in the final trailer for “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” the fourth installment in the rebooted saga. Set centuries after Caesar’s tribe reached the oasis in “War for the Planet of the Apes,” monkeykind has become the dominant species. However, the tyrannical Proximus Caesar, who usurped the revered Caesar’s name, utilizes rediscovered human technology to expand his empire, marking a departure from the Ape Dark Ages.
Realizing the elders concealed truths, young chimpanzee Noa (Owen Teague) embarks on a perilous expedition into the Forbidden Zone with feral human Mae (Freya Allen). This journey challenges Noa’s beliefs about the past and forces him to make crucial decisions shaping the future of both apes and humans.
Director Wes Ball (Maze Runner trilogy) introduces Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes as the beginning of a new Apes trilogy, a “sendoff to fans” of the previous series. “It’s about the birth of a legend,” Ball explains. “When Caesar died, he became more than an ape. And it’s about that idea.” The film is set “hundreds, not thousands” of years after Caesar’s death.
“We haven’t set a specific date,” Ball clarified, estimating the events to occur 300-400 years after the events of ‘War.’ “It’s enough time for stories to evolve, like a game of telephone through history, eroding and transforming details.”
Kingdom features Peter Macon (The Orville) as Raka, William H. Macy (Shameless) as Trevathan, Travis Jeffery (Home and Away) as Anaya, and Neil Sandilands (Sweet Tooth) as Koro.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes tickets are available for purchase now. Early Access Screenings will take place on May 8th, and the wide release is scheduled for May 10th.
